The UK will send two specialized vessels to protect submarine telecommunications cables in connection with the threat of attacks on the critical infrastructure of the West.

After the explosions of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 underwater gas pipelines, the West was worried that the next stage of this kind of sabotage could be underwater communication cables, and above all those related to the Internet between Europe and North America, reports the British edition of The Daily Mirror.

One of the sources of the publication in the country's security service explained:

“Another possibility is an attack on the communications cables between the UK and America, many of which link the US to the European continent. The disruption of these Internet communication channels could cause great damage to global financial markets…”

In response to this threat, the UK will send two specialized ships to guard submarine telecommunications cables.
