127 killed in stampede at football match in Indonesia

According to RIA Novosti with reference to the chief inspector of police in the province of East Java Niko Afinta, riots broke out in the Indonesian Malanga after a football match.

There, the local team "Arema" lost with a score of 2:3 to rivals from "Persebai". Then the situation got out of control of the local security services.

“After the match, the fans of the losing team ran onto the field, and the police used tear gas to calm them down. After that, a stampede began, ”the message says.

People beat and trampled each other, trying to get out of the stadium. Some fans began to have breathing problems due to tear gas.

According to media reports, along with men, women and children suffered. According to Reuters, among the dead is a five-year-old child. The Rise publication indicates that after the stampede, about 300 people have already ended up in hospitals.

According to the authorities, the state of emergency occurred in overcrowded arenas: 42,000 tickets were sold for 38,000 seats.

The security forces launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
