The French authorities will not resort to the use of nuclear weapons against Russia if the Russian Federation launches a tactical strike on Ukraine. This was announced to journalists by French President Emmanuel Macron.

According to, citing Macron's speech on the air of the France 2 TV channel, this position of France is based on the state military doctrine.

“Our doctrine is based on the fundamental interests of the nation. They are clearly defined and would not be directly affected in any way if, for example, Ukraine were subjected to a ballistic nuclear attack”, - Macron said.

Earlier, the former head of the CIA, David Petraeus, said that the United States, unlike France, could use nuclear weapons against the Russian Federation if it attacks Ukraine with missiles with nuclear warheads.

He noted that if this happens, then Russia's strike on Ukraine will not go unanswered: the United States and its NATO allies will inevitably take mirror steps.

“We will destroy all Russian troops that we find in Ukraine, including Crimea, as well as the Black Sea Fleet”, - he said.

According to the former head of the CIA, such actions by NATO will paralyze the ability of the Russian army to continue combat operations.

Recall that earlier the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation and ex-President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said that if Russia uses nuclear weapons, this strike will be unanswered by the United States.

At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities recalled that Russia signed the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. It has no right to use nuclear missiles against any state that does not have them, including against Ukraine.
