Writing for The New York Times , Charles Kupchan, professor of international relations at Georgetown University, wrote about the role the United States could play in shaping Ukraine's strategic goals.
"To reduce the likelihood of a wider conflict between NATO and Russia, Washington needs Kiev to become more transparent about its combat plans, and US officials need to be more involved in Kiev's military decisions", - he said.
Kupchan added that Kiev is capable of making "strategically unreasonable" actions that will lead to a worsening of the situation.
“The United States is avoiding the transfer of weapons systems that Kiev could use to launch strikes deep into Russian territory", - the publication says.
Kupchan emphasized that it would be possible to avoid a war between NATO and Russia only if the United States was directly involved in the implementation of Ukraine's operational plans.
