EU will punish Iran for violence against women protesting against the arbitrariness of the authorities

According to the German magazine Der Spiegel, the package includes 31 proposals to be discussed and approved by the participants in the meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Brussels on 14 November. The project, in particular, proposes to freeze the assets of Iranian representatives who fell under the sanctions, as well as introduce a ban on their entry into the EU countries.

A week ago, Brussels already imposed sanctions against 11 individuals and four entities of Iran, including the so-called "vice police". In response, the Iranian Foreign Ministry imposed retaliatory sanctions against EU organizations and media.

As Bloomberg recalled, at the end of September, the whole of Iran learned that 22-year-old Mahsi Amini was detained by a police patrol only because she “wrongly wore a headscarf.” During interrogation, the girl died of a heart attack. Immediately after the funeral, women rebelled in 80 cities of the Islamic Republic, protesting against the arbitrariness of the authorities. Crowds of young women stood around the fires, throwing hijabs and headscarves into the fire. After that, they cut their hair long and danced around the fires with their heads uncovered.

Despite the threat of reprisals, women's protests throughout Iran were joined by their husbands and children, as well as Iranian workers, university students, and school teachers.

The authorities tried to suppress the protests by force and even ordered the soldiers to open fire to kill. Secret agents in the crowd of "infidels" used stun guns and pepper gas, provoking people to pogroms and fights.

Last week, Iranian intelligence agencies found the instigators of the uprising. They turned out to be two Iranian journalists who were the first to report on social networks about the death of Mahsi Amini.

According to The Washington Post, the Iranian judiciary accuses Nilufar Hamedi and Elaheh Mohammadi of being CIA spies and "primary sources of news for foreign media". For this they are entitled to the death penalty. In the meantime, women have been arrested and subjected to interrogations with prejudice.

The Oslo-based human rights organization in Iran confirmed the deaths of more than 270 people, including dozens of children. Some 12,000 Iranians were arrested on charges of treason and convicted. Among them are 45 Iranian journalists.
