"Kommersant": accused of embezzlement of land from the Ministry of Defense released under house arrest

The ex-military pleaded guilty, and also made a deal with the investigation.

“The colonel is a defendant in a scandalous investigation into the theft of tens of hectares of land, including at the Alabinsky training ground, which is now used to train participants in a special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. Colonel Borodin fully admitted his guilt and made a deal with the investigation, which allowed him to return to his ex-wife with a ban on using any means of communication”, - Kommersant reports, indicating that Borodin was even forbidden to use a pager.

As the publication notes, the former military man is accused of fraud on an especially large scale, which was committed by a group of persons by prior agreement, which corresponds to Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This group consisted of civilians and military personnel. In the period from 2008 to 2019, “through deception and abuse of the trust of officials,” the group stole the lands of the defense department, the area of \u200b\u200bwhich is 45 hectares, and the cadastral value of assets is estimated at 900 million rubles.

Thus, the lands belonging to the Alabino training ground, where the participants of the special operation in Ukraine are now being trained and coordinated, turned out to be in the hands of the attackers. There were also preparations for parades on Red Square. Borodin and other defendants in the case were detained at the end of July. The former deputy head of the quartering department of the Ministry of Defense pleaded guilty, concluded a pre-trial agreement on cooperation with the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office.

“As part of the deal, he pointed to the accomplices of the crime, testified about the mechanism of the theft of defense lands, the circumstances of the conspiracy of the accomplices in the scam, their roles, the amount of stolen property, and also reported other crimes not related to the criminal case under investigation, exposing these persons”, - clarifies "Kommersant".

In this regard, Borodin's preventive measure was mitigated by choosing house arrest. The location was identified as the apartment of his ex-wife, who did not object to this. He is forbidden to leave the house and communicate with other defendants in the case. Any means of communication is prohibited except in emergency cases.

“Sergey Borodin will be under house arrest for a long time. In any case, the chairman of the ICR, Alexander Bastrykin, who personally oversees the investigation of this case, extended the investigation period until February 18, 2023”, - the publication reports.

According to Kommersant's information, other members of the group also expressed their readiness to cooperate with the investigation, therefore, in the near future, preventive measures may be mitigated for other defendants in the scandalous case.
