Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu noted that the lives of servicemen were a priority when making this difficult decision. Now the military took up defensive positions along the left bank.

In October, the evacuation of civilians was announced in the region due to increased shelling. In early November, the evacuation zone was expanded by another 15 kilometers due to threats of flooding in the region if the Ukrainian military strikes at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
