The UN General Assembly adopted by 94 votes a draft resolution on compensation for damage to Ukraine. 14 UN members voted against, 73 abstained. Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev called this resolution legally null and void.

According to the document, it is recommended “the creation by members of the UN General Assembly, in cooperation with Ukraine, of an international register of damage, which will serve as documented evidence of the claimed damage, losses and injuries incurred as a result of the internationally illegal actions of the Russian Federation in Ukraine or against it, as well as to promote and coordinate data collection.”

The meeting was held at the initiative of Canada, Guatemala, the Netherlands and Ukraine. Russia opposed the adoption of the resolution as "not withstanding legal scrutiny."

Russian envoy to the UN Vasily Nebenzya announced during the meeting that the West is trying to use the sovereign funds of the Russian Federation blocked by them to continue deliveries and pay for weapons already provided to the Kyiv regime, and called this possibility "blatant robbery." He warned that if the resolution is adopted, it could boomerang to the initiators of the document. This will lead to increased instability and tension in the world.

Vice Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev recalled that all resolutions of the UN General Assembly "in principle are not binding."

“…But when they by their very content contradict the UN Charter and the fundamental norms of international law, this makes such resolutions not just declarative, but legally null and void,” the politician emphasized.

Kosachev is sure that this will not stop the initiators of the resolution “to give at least a semblance of legitimacy to their deliberately illegal actions to arrest, seize and subsequently use, at their own discretion, Russian assets that were once entrusted to them in the hope of inviolability and binding of the same international law for all without exception and regardless of the circumstances.

In October, we recall, the President of Madagascar Andri Radzuelina accused the country's Foreign Minister Richard Randriamandratu of having personally decided to support the anti-Russian UN resolution on referendums in the Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
