According to RBC, citing a NielsenIQ study on key trends in the FMCG market, 71% of Russians saved on clothes, 66% on entertainment outside the home , 65% on food in public catering, and only 36% of respondents saved on alcohol. The three main areas of savings remained unchanged from the same period last year, however, in general, citizens began to save more.
At the same time, the increase in sales of alcohol amounted to 4.2% in the first half of the year, and products - 1.2%. The increase in the purchase of clothing decreased by 25-30% . Moreover, the dynamics of alcohol sales is not the first year ahead of food purchases. Buyers, on the other hand, save on alcohol “last of all”, since it belongs to the category of “acutely social consumer products” for more than 70% of the adult population of the country. Its consumption is growing as citizens perceive it as an antidepressant, experts point out.
During the period from January to September 2022, sales of vodka in Russia increased - by 6.4% - to 3.4 million decaliters. Sales of cider, poiret and mead, on the contrary, fell by 15.6% - to 6.1 million decaliters, beer - by 4.2% - to 557.4 million decaliters. During this period, sales of other types of alcohol rose by 3.5% , to 161.95 million decaliters, including sales of spirits with a strength above 9% - by 7.6% , to 83.9 million decaliters. The demand for vodka also grew in summer - by 10.6% . During the first six months, 36.7 million decaliters of this alcoholic beverage were sold , which is 7.5% more than in January-June last year.
