By the second reading of the bill on the ban on propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations and pedophilia, the State Duma was amended to ban the sale of goods with LGBT propaganda.

According to TASS, the initiative to ban goods, including imported ones, with information about LGBT people was initiated by the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Alexander Khinshtein.

“Article 7 of the Law of the Russian Federation “On Protection of Consumer Rights” should be supplemented with the following paragraph: it is not allowed to sell goods, including imported goods, containing information for the dissemination of which administrative or criminal liability is provided”, - the report says.

The RIA Novosti news agency notes that at a meeting of the State Duma Committee on State Construction, the deputies nevertheless rejected a number of amendments to the bill banning LGBT propaganda and pedophilia, introducing criminal liability for repeated violations of the new law.

The authors of the “criminal amendments” were State Duma deputies Nina Ostanina and Nikolai Burlyaev. They proposed for repeated violation of the law to be punished with imprisonment of up to 1 year, and if the violation was committed in the media, then up to two years.

According to Interfax , another block of amendments involves fines of up to a million rubles for promoting gender reassignment.

The bill on banning LGBT propaganda was adopted by the State Duma in the first reading in October this year. The document was criticized by representatives of the book industry. Which indicated that the innovation actually introduces censorship, which is prohibited by Article 29 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. If the ban on any mention of LGBT is adopted in the final version, this will lead to the cessation of distribution of up to half of the books published in Russia.
