Despite the fact that the Germans were considered the undisputed favorites, Taiyo threw the ball into the blue bucket, symbolizing the Samurai Blue - the Japanese team.

A male otter named Taiyo has become a fan favorite in Japan thanks to his patriotic prediction coming true, according to BusinessInsider.

An 8-year-old animal lives in Tokyo's Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa. On November 22, the day before the match against Germany, Taiyo was used to predict the outcome of the match: he had to drop the ball into a yellow, red or blue bucket, which meant a draw, a German victory, and a Japanese victory, respectively. Despite the fact that the Germans were considered the undisputed favorites, Taiyo threw the ball into the blue bucket, symbolizing the Samurai Blue - the Japanese team.

A day later, the Japanese team scored a stunning 2-1 victory over Germany, and the oracle otter became the talk of the town in his homeland. Fans on social media praised Taiyo for his extraordinary competence.

Japan has a short-lived tradition of using otters as predictors before national team matches at the World Cup. True, predictions do not always come true. For example, an otter named Chippu mistakenly predicted Japan's defeat during the 2014 championship against Greece. Otter bet on Greece, but the match ended in a draw.
