26-year-old cat from London entered the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest in the world

The Guinness Book of Records has named the world's oldest cat Flossie from London, who is at least 26 years and 316 days old, according to Business Insider. The tortoiseshell cat was born on the street, but then was adopted and spent most of her life in a loving family. Flossie outlived her two previous owners, became deaf, half-blind, and eventually ended up in an orphanage. The volunteers were sure that she would end her days there, but Flossie was appreciated and taken home by a girl named Vicki Green, who is the same age as her ward.

Now Flossie lives in the suburbs of London and, according to her owner, is quite healthy and even playful. “The first few nights she was noisy because she couldn't see in the dark and was confused by her new surroundings, but now she sleeps through the night snuggled up next to me on the bed,” Vicki says. “If I am in such good shape at her age, and there is someone who listens to all my desires, I will be completely happy.” According to Vicki, she “knew from the very beginning that Flossie was a special cat, but I never imagined that I would share my house with a world record holder.”

Despite the fact that Flossy is the oldest living cat, the absolute record for feline longevity belongs to another animal. This is a cat named Creme Puff, who lived in Texas and by the time of his death in 2005 reached, according to the entry in the Guinness Book of Records, the incredible age of 38 years.
