Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin welcomes the initiative of the Vatican to mediate between Moscow and Kiev.

“We know that a number of foreign statesmen and countries are declaring their readiness to provide their platform and, of course, we welcome such political will”, - Peskov said in an interview with reporters (quoted by Interfax).

Thus, the Kremlin representative reacted to the statements of the Vatican about its readiness to provide a platform for negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. At the same time, according to him, the Ukrainian side will not demand such sites.

“But in the situation that we now have de facto and de jure on the part of the Ukrainian side, such sites cannot be in demand”, - he added.

In early November, the Vatican announced its readiness to mediate in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, as well as to provide a platform for negotiations. Pope Francis expressed his desire to resolve the crisis in Ukraine peacefully. He also spoke about finding solutions to bring the parties closer. The Vatican is also involved in prisoner exchanges and other humanitarian missions.
