The Odessa City Council decided to dismantle the monuments to the Russian Empress Catherine II (pictured) and commander Alexander Suvorov.

It is reported by RIA Novosti. The decision to “cancel Russian culture” in Ukraine was called “stupid” by the Kremlin. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, there is no such phenomenon in Russia.

“Our culture is being canceled by stupid people, but we not only don’t cancel any of the best works, the best examples of the culture of other countries, but we also advance the ideas and humanistic principles that are embedded in these works”, - Kommersant quotes the President as saying.

Earlier it was reported that in the city of Ananyev, Odessa region, a bronze monument to the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin was demolished. Prior to this, the Pushkin memorial plaque was dismantled in Nikolaev, REN TV notes.

Another monument to Pushkin was dismantled in Zhytomyr, as well as in Cherepovtsy, now the city administration is considering the demolition of the second one.
