The Mars Media Entertainment film company filed a lawsuit for 115 million rubles against the descendants of the writer Mikhail Bulgakov (pictured), 62-year-old Sergey Shilovsky and 72-year-old Daria Shilovskaya.

The reason for the demands is the sale of the film rights to the novel "The Master and Margarita"for both "Mars Media" and an American company.

According to the TG-channel Mash, representatives of Mars Media turned to the writer's heirs (the Shilovskys each have half of the rights to Bulgakov's legacy) in 2017, deciding to shoot another adaptation of The Master and Margarita. An agreement was drawn up, the company paid the Shilovskys (the amount of the transaction was not disclosed), but after that the production center received a complaint from the American side.

As it turned out, the Shilovskys had previously sold the film rights to American producer Michael Lang, a production in the United States is already being prepared by director Baz, who directed The Great Gatsby. The Russian film company had to abandon filming and close the project. Mars Media Entertainment believes that the Shilovskys are to blame for the incident. From them, the film company demanded compensation for production losses.
