Recently, the Telegram messenger has the ability to create accounts without a physical SIM card, and in addition, set an auto-delete timer for all your new messages.
So, instead of a real phone number, you can use anonymous numbers based on the blockchain (you can buy them on the Fragment platform), and set a timer to delete the message, which will disappear for all users. Prices for cheap rooms start at $17, but the most “beautiful” ones can cost as much as $10,000. The description of the update states that such an update will create an "unprecedented level of privacy".
The founder of this messenger, Pavel Durov, recently reported that $50 million worth of usernames were sold on Fragment in less than a month. In addition, Durov announced that the Fragment platform will go beyond usernames:
“Telegram’s next step is to build a set of decentralized tools, including non-custodial wallets and decentralized exchanges, so that millions of people can trade and store cryptocurrencies securely. In this way, we can correct the errors caused by the over-centralization that has failed hundreds of thousands of cryptocurrency users”.
One of the reasons for this step, he called the recent collapse of one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges FTX. According to Durov, it is a paradox that the blockchain industry, originally created for decentralization, suddenly ended up in the hands of a group of monopolists:
“The blockchain industry was built on the promise of decentralization but ended up in the hands of a few who began to abuse their power. As a result, many people lost their money when FTX, one of the largest exchanges, went bankrupt”.
