Dina Boluarte will remain as president, according to the constitution of the Latin American country, until July 26, 2026.
"We commend Peruvian institutions and civil authorities for maintaining the stability of a democracy and will continue to support Peru, which is governed by the [national] unity government that President Boluarte promised to form", - the United States State Department said in a statement to Reuters.
Recall that on the eve of the Peruvian Congress decided to remove President Pedro Castillo - the decision was supported by two-thirds of the members of Parliament. He was accused of corruption and impeached due to "permanent moral incompetence". They tried to impeach Castillo twice before this - in December and March 2022. But both attempts failed.
In turn, Castillo tried to dissolve parliament and declare a curfew in the country. However, a few hours later, Parliament announced Castillo's impeachment.
