In September, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon opened five Russian-language schools in Tajikistan. Schools are located in different regions of the country and are named after the heroes and cultural figures of Russia: Yuri Gagarin, Mikhail Lomonosov, Anton Chekhov, Dmitry Mendeleyev, Konstantin Ushinsky.
Putin announced the opening of the cultural center of Tajikistan in Moscow. Last year, the Russian authorities allocated $150 million for the construction of Russian-language schools in Tajikistan.
Rahmon declared the next year, 2023, the Year of the Russian Language in the Republic.
