Residents of Peru demand the immediate holding of new presidential elections - one person has already died during the protests, at least ten were injured. The demonstrators seized the airport and set fire to the terminals.

According to the state-owned company Coprac, which manages the airport, the air harbor had to be closed.

“The command has sent reinforcements to ensure order and public peace", - the police said.

Recall that the riots in the Latin American country began after the parliament announced the impeachment of the current president, Pedro Castillo, on December 7. A few hours before his announcement, the head of the republic tried to dissolve parliament and declare a curfew in the country. Castillo was detained on charges of rebellion and abuse of power.

On December 8, the oath of office was taken by Dina Boluarte, Vice President of Peru. She became the first woman in this position in the country. The United States immediately pledged support to Peru.

Today it became known that Boluarte announced the holding of early elections in April 2024.
