Washington extended permission for energy transactions with Russian banks

The United States Department of the Treasury has issued a general license that allows sanctioned Russian banks to conduct energy transactions. The license will be valid until at least May 16 next year.

The license includes Rosbank, against which sanctions were announced the day before. Operations are allowed to be carried out with the Bank of Russia, Vnesheconombank, Otkritie Bank, Sovcombank, Sberbank, VTB, Alfa-Bank and any other organizations where they own a share of 50% or more.

We are talking about transactions that affect the extraction, transportation of various types of fuel, including oil and gas, coal, wood or agricultural products used to produce biofuels or uranium in any form. It will also affect contracts for the production and transmission of electricity produced also on nuclear and thermal power plants or from renewable energy sources. In November, the license was supposed to expire on May 15th.

Recall that on December 15, Washington announced restrictive measures against companies associated with VTB, Vladimir Potanin, Deputy Prime Ministers Andrei Belousov and Dmitry Chernyshenko, and several Russian governors.

Rosbank has already commented on the inclusion in the list of restrictive measures, assuring that this will not affect the work of the bank.

In addition, the list of regular US sanctions included 30 governors of Russian regions, including the head of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss, as well as his son Artem Uss, who was detained in Milan.
