China is ready to move closer to Russia for the sake of fair global governance, Chinese President Xi Jinping said after meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev arrived on December 21 on an unannounced visit to Beijing, where he met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping at the state residence.

It discussed a wide range of issues. During the conversation, Medvedev conveyed to the Chinese leader a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The deputy chairman of the Security Council noted that the meeting was characterized by "an unprecedented level of Russian-Chinese political dialogue and practical cooperation."

“China is ready to draw closer to Russia in order to constantly advance Sino-Russian relations in a new era and jointly promote the development of global governance in a more just and reasonable direction,” Kommersant quoted the words of the Chinese leader.

Earlier it was reported that after the start of the military special operation of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, NATO countries turned to the Chinese leadership with requests to “influence” Russia in resolving the armed conflict. Earlier, the leader of the People's Republic of China said that a long conflict in Ukraine is unfavorable for China.

According to Medvedev, the parties during the meeting "discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, our strategic partnership in all areas, including, of course, industrial cooperation", issues of inter-party cooperation, as well as "the international situation, including the conflict in Ukraine." Medvedev called the results of the meeting "very useful" for the country.
