The head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Alexander Khinshtein said that the norms of the law on the prohibition of propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations also apply to video games. He spoke about this during a press conference on Thursday.

“In our opinion, the video game ban on LGBT propaganda covers. It is forbidden to sell any product containing information for the distribution of which administrative or criminal liability is established, therefore everything that is sold also falls under this”, - said Khinshtein (quoted by TASS).

According to his statement, video games that contain LGBT propaganda should be removed from online stores or not available to users from Russia. He explained that when selling a game via the Internet, Federal Law 149 “On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection” applies, which implies the removal of a product containing LGBT propaganda from online platforms.

As Kommersant notes , the parliamentarian also agreed with the need for separate legal regulation for computer games, but not within the framework of the law on LGBT propaganda.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations and preferences, propaganda of pedophilia, as well as information that may cause minors to want to change their sex. In accordance with the amendments to the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses, fines are provided for citizens, officials and legal entities.
