Deliveries of wine from EU countries to Russia increased in August-October of this year - over 40% of the volume of the last wine trade season was imported during this period. According to experts, the market is undergoing extreme compensatory growth, since in March-April, the import of alcoholic beverages fell by 30%.

According to RBC, at the end of the year, the market is not expected to grow, but the market was able to compensate for the failure of imports in the spring by strengthening the ruble. In the period from August to October, the EU countries supplied about 1 million hl of wine to Russia, which is 43% more than the volume imported in August-October 2021. Russia was supplied with 42.7% of the volume that the EU countries exported to the Russian market over the previous 12 months (from August 2021 to July 2022) - 2.35 million hl.

Imports from France increased by 89.5%, from Germany - by 78%, from Italy - by 58%, from Latvia - by 37.4%. The top five in terms of year-on-year growth in supplies included Austria - a six-fold increase, Bulgaria - a five-fold increase, Croatia - three times, Estonia - by 133%, Finland - by 132%.

Last month, wholesalers of alcoholic beverages began to record a shortage of popular brands two months before the New Year celebration. We are talking about bourbon, cognac, sparkling wines, previously imported from abroad. At the same time, the production of its own alcohol is growing in Russia. Local factories for ten months of this year increased the production of alcohol by 12%, follows from the data of Rosalkogolregulirovanie. The data are given without taking into account statistics on the production of beer, cider and mead.
