In the Indian state of Assam, a leopard terrorized the residents of the city of Jorhat, hiding from forestry workers who intended to put the beast to sleep with tranquilizers. The predator attacked people and cars. As a result of a series of attacks, at least 15 people were injured.

"Many of the wounded were bitten and needed hospitalization. They are out of danger now. But more and more people with injuries are being admitted to the hospital of the Jorhat Medical College," hospital spokesman Purnima Barua said (quoted by RIA Novosti).According to the Times of India TV channel, at least 15 people were injured, including children, women and forestry workers.

Judging by the video from eyewitnesses, the beast behaved extremely aggressively, and according to the TV channel, the attacks continued until late at night. The predator not only moved through the streets, but was also seen in buildings and car trunks.

Most of the victims came from the university campus of the Rainforest Research Institute, which is located on the outskirts of the city of Jorhat. The Forestry Department suggested that the aggressive beast had invaded the campus in search of food, arriving from the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary located nearby. Campus residents were advised to stay at home until the situation was resolved."The animal has become very aggressive.

We set traps inside the campus to capture him. Efforts are being made to track him down," said Ranjit Konwar, a representative of the Jorhat administration. He also added that the leopard had previously attacked residents of villages adjacent to the institute, which are surrounded by tea plantations.

The reasons for the aggressive behavior of the beast are being investigated.
