Earlier, the company closed access to downloading for users with Russian IP addresses. It was possible to download Windows only when using a VPN. Now the OS is available again in the country, Izvestia writes. Users will be able to download the latest OS version — Windows 11 22H2, previous Windows 10, Windows 8.1. and Windows 7, reinstall the OS and get access to the "Windows Installation Assistant" designed for software updates.
You can download an image of the operating system itself for recording to digital media. According to IT experts, the changes are due to the adoption of adjustments in the policy of the American corporation. The fact is that the use of Windows by individuals does not fall under restrictive anti-Russian measures. Experts believe that returning access to downloading software and updates to users who previously purchased software is a logical action arising from the norms of international and Russian law. Anyone can download the software, but it will not be possible to activate it without a key.
The key is provided when purchasing the software. The boxed version of the software, which is sold in stores and delivered via parallel import, is activated in the country without using a VPN.
Microsoft has officially suspended operations in Russia since March 4, after which major OS updates have become unavailable in the country. The system also did not notify users about the release of major updates.
Recall that in September, the company limited the possibility for Russians to upgrade a PC from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Users started having problems downloading the latest updates of the Windows 11 operating system in Russia.
