The Yaroslavl Regional Court handed down a life sentence to Vitaly Molchanov, a resident of Rybinsk, for sexual violence and the murder of two young girls.

The "Rybinsk maniac" will serve his sentence in a special regime colony. In addition, the court ordered Molchanov to pay 10 million rubles to the father of the girls he killed, and 2 million rubles to the mother.

According to Kommersant, the court found Molchanov guilty of murdering two minors with extreme cruelty, involving violent acts of a sexual nature, violent acts of a sexual nature against a minor and attempted rape of a victim under the age of 14, using the helpless state of the victim.

Initially, Molchanov was also charged with desecration of the bodies of the deceased.

A resonant crime occurred in Rybinsk in September 2020: after returning from work, the mother of two girls aged 8 and 13 found her daughters murdered. The examination found that the children had been subjected to violence before their death.

On suspicion of committing crimes, the security forces detained the mother's roommate, who confessed to what he had done in full. At the trial, Molchanov asked not to sentence him to a life sentence, saying that he did not pose a danger to society. He said that it was not malicious intent that pushed him to the crime, but a mental disorder that he had.

At the same time, the examination found that Molchanov committed the crime while being sane, although two initial examinations indicated that he had psychiatric abnormalities. In October, the maniac's case was submitted to the Yaroslavl Regional Court. During the investigation, it turned out that Molchanov had committed similar crimes before. In 2010, Molchanov raped and killed a child. For what he had done, he was convicted by the Chkalovsky court of Yekaterinburg, he served his sentence, was released and moved to Rybinsk, where he got a job at a cable factory and began living with the mother of the murdered schoolgirls. The state prosecutor requested a life sentence for the defendant. The first deputy head of the Social Committee of the Federation Council, Valery Ryazansky, also asked for a similar punishment for him. He is sure that pedophiles should be subjected to chemical castration.

"
