From 5 to 50 rubles: how the fare in the Moscow subway has changed over the past 20 years

A one—time trip on a "Single" ticket has risen in price by 1 ruble — from 61 rubles to 62, and the cost of a ticket for two trips has increased by 2 rubles, respectively - 124 rubles instead of 122 rubles.

The changes, which will take effect on January 2, 2023, were reported on the website of the Moscow Metro in mid-November. It was clarified that in 2023 the fare for biometrics will not change — 46 rubles. And for the fifth year in a row, the ticket price for 365 days in the central zone and the "Suburbs" does not change — 19500 and 24450 rubles. The price of the annual Bus-Tram ticket (TAT) remains the same — 14,000 rubles.

The Moscow Metro stressed that over the past ten years the rate of indexation of fares in Moscow transport is significantly lower than inflation.

Novye Izvestia recalled how prices have changed in the Moscow subway over the past decades. So, in 2000, one trip to the subway cost passengers 5 rubles. Then, for several years in a row (2002, 2003, 2005), travel became more expensive by three rubles per month - up to 7, 10 and 13 rubles, respectively.

Until 2014, the price of metro travel changed by 2 rubles a year, then by 3 rubles. And in 2014, when some types of travel tickets were already in effect, the cost of the trip increased to 40 rubles (and 28 rubles on the Troika card). And for the last eight years, travel on the Troika card has been getting more expensive annually by the same 2 or 3 rubles. Starting in 2023, the trip will cost 4 rubles more. Since 2023, tariffs in the St. Petersburg metro have also changed markedly.

One trip on the Plantain card also went up by 4 rubles at once - up to 49 rubles. A one-time trip to the metro of the Northern capital without a travel card will cost 70 rubles.
