According to Kommersant, Ruslan Khasbulatov died on January 3, 2023 at a dacha near Moscow. He was 80 years old. The causes of death are not specified.

According to RIA Novosti, Ruslan Khasbulatov's funeral will be held in Chechnya, his relatives said.

Ruslan Khasbulatov was born in Grozny in 1942. In October 1991, he was elected Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR. He was the last person to hold this position.

Ruslan Khasbulatov was one of the key figures of the 1993 political crisis. The conflict was caused by the aggravation of the struggle between two political forces - Russian President Boris Yeltsin and his opponents: Vice President Alexander Rutsky, People's deputies and members of the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation headed by Ruslan Khasbulatov.

In September 1993, the Congress of People's Deputies, convened by the Supreme Soviet, announced the termination of President Yeltsin's powers, but Yeltsin did not obey the decision of the Congress. He was supported by the government and the leadership of law enforcement agencies.

In October 1993, armed clashes took place on the streets of Moscow, during which 158 citizens were killed. The Congress of People's Deputies and the Supreme Soviet were dispersed by troops using weapons and armored vehicles. Footage of the shooting of the parliament building from tank guns flew around the world. Khasbulatov was arrested.

In February 1994 Ruslan Khasbulatov was granted amnesty by the State Duma.

Ruslan Khasbulatov was a professor at Plekhanov University and a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He has more than 750 scientific papers on his account.
