Last year, Russian fitness clubs lost many customers who left the country or were forced to save on these services. But compared to the pandemic year 2021, the industry still grew by 8.3%.

According to Forbes, referring to the National Fitness Community, the total revenue of fitness clubs at the end of last year amounted to 154.1 billion rubles. Sales of club cards and season tickets were 4.2% higher than in 2021, and additional services - by 4.9%. Attendance at the halls increased by 4.5%. At the same time, the number of clubs has also increased - 587 halls opened in 2022, and 172 closed.

To date, there are 8,200 fitness clubs operating in Russia compared to 7800 in 2021, when about four hundred such facilities were closed.

Sergey Savinov, General Director of the USSR fitness club chain, believes that the crisis that the industry is currently experiencing is "exhausting": "The problems were one after another.

First a pandemic, now a special operation".

"But we entered the pandemic with some kind of base, platform. Now everything has burned down", - Savinov said. Other industry representatives agree: the current crisis is one of the most difficult, and its consequences will be felt for many years.

They believe that the industry will be able to cope with the support of the state, as well as if the owners of the premises go to the meeting, and if the geopolitical situation does not worsen. It should be noted that with the beginning of the special operation and due to the anti-Russian sanctions imposed, the market had to adapt to an unpredictable drop in sales, which reached 50-70%, as well as reconfigure business processes.

By the way, in November, the revenue of fitness halls rose by 23.7%, or 2.6 billion rubles, compared to November 2021, and sales of club cards and season tickets increased by 21.3%.
