Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the country's Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on the ceasefire regime along the entire line of contact between the sides in Ukraine. The regime will be in effect from 12 o'clock on January 6 to 24 o'clock on January 7.

The Head of State called on the Ukrainian side to also declare a ceasefire and allow citizens to attend Christmas services.

Earlier today, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia appealed to the Russian and Ukrainian sides to establish a Christmas truce from noon on January 6 to 24 hours on January 7. The head of the Russian Orthodox Church stressed that this is necessary so that "Orthodox people can attend services on Christmas Eve and on the day of the Nativity of Christ." "Taking into account the appeal of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, I instruct the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation to introduce a ceasefire regime along the entire line of contact between the sides in Ukraine from 12:00 on January 6 to 24:00 on January 7," the Kremlin's press service said in a statement.

The Ukrainian side is not ready to agree to a ceasefire.

Adviser to the Minister of the Interior of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko wrote in his TG channel that Kiev will not cease fire until it "expels" the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation "from the territory of Ukraine, including Crimea."
