Alexander Ovechkin broke the record for the number of matches in the NHL among Russians

Russian forward of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin broke Alexey Kovalev's record for the number of matches in the regular championships of the National Hockey League among hockey players from Russia.

In total, Ovechkin played 1,317 games in the NHL, scored 1,458 points - 809 of them goals. Kovalev finished his sports career in 2014. By this time, he had 1316 matches and 1029 points on his account, 430 of which were goals. Ovechkin was recognized as the first star of December in the NHL.

Over 15 matches, the captain of Washington scored 22 points, becoming the second in this indicator. The hockey player also broke Gordie Howe's record (801 goals), scoring the 801st and 802nd goals.
