Russian President Vladimir Putin has submitted to the State Duma a bill on the denunciation of the Convention on Criminal Liability for Corruption - the document is published in the Duma electronic database.

- To denounce the Convention on Criminal Liability for Corruption, signed on behalf of the Russian Federation in the city of Strasbourg on January 27, 1999, - the document says. The Government has already approved this proposal.

At the end of 2022, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers Mikhail Mishustin signed a resolution encouraging the initiative. It was decided to denounce the Convention, since the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe terminates Russia's membership in the Group of States against Corruption.

Recall that in March last year, Moscow left the Council of Europe - after 26 years of participation. Before that, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe restricted the rights of the Russian Federation in the organization and PACE. PACE notified the Russian side of the suspension of membership in the assembly, and then voted to exclude Moscow from the Council of Europe.
