The global traffic Indicator system INRIX presented its data on road congestion in cities around the world. The most difficult traffic situation is in London, where a person spends an average of 156 hours in traffic annually, Chicago (155 hours) and Paris (138 hours). The USA ranks first among the countries: five American cities entered the top ten of the rating.
In compiling their rating, INRIX analysts were guided by data such as the congestion of each segment of the road of a particular city at every minute of the day, delays during trips, collisions on the roads, the duration of trips to the city center and to work. To get the data, the company uses anonymous data from smartphones and GPS devices in cars, trucks and other vehicles, as well as data from other sources.
"2022 was supposed to be a year of rebirth and a return to a new, post-pandemic norm of behavior, but this did not happen due to rising oil prices, supply chain disruptions and inflation", - says INRIX transport analyst Bob Pichew. "We continue to see an increase in the total number of transport miles traveled, a return to traditional morning and evening peak commuting, an increase in the use of public transport and a continued increase in trips to the city center".
In total, more than 1000 cities from 50 countries of the world were evaluated in the rating. The cities of Russia, unfortunately, were not included in their number.
