"Bortnikov should be sentenced to 15 years and 3 months in a strict regime colony", - Judge Yevgeny Balayev announced the verdict, the words of which are transmitted by a TASS correspondent from the courtroom.Bortnikov was accused of crimes under Part 5 of Article 228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — Illegal production of narcotic drugs on a particularly large scale, as well as Part 2 of Article 228.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — Illegal acquisition and storage of precursors of narcotic drugs.
The Yaroslavl court also sentenced the accomplices of the ex-deputy Yegor Tarasov and Artyom Lebedev.
Tarasov received 10 years and 3 months in a strict regime colony, and Lebedev was sentenced to 15 years and 3 months in a strict regime colony. The state prosecution requested from the court 17.5 years in a penal colony for Bortnikov, 17 years in prison for Lebedev and 16.5 years in prison for Tarasov.
As Kommersant notes, when imposing punishment for Tarasov, Article 64 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was applied — The imposition of a less severe punishment than provided for in the article is an exceptional measure and is permissible in the presence of exceptional mitigating circumstances.
The defendants spent almost a year under arrest.
During the detention of the organizers, law enforcement officers seized more than 112 kg of precursors of narcotic drugs.
