To do this, the EC is introducing new anti-Russian sanctions.

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the European Union will continue to impose sanctions against Russia in order to plunge the country's economy into recession for decades. - We are imposing the strongest sanctions against the Russian Federation, which plunge the Russian economy into recession for decades, and its industry is deprived of modern and critical technologies, TASS quotes the words of the European Commissioner.

Von der Leyen's words disagree with the opinion of a number of European leaders, who state that Western countries suffer more from anti-Russian sanctions than Moscow itself.

For example, yesterday Croatian President Zoran Milanovic noted that there is no point in sanctions against Russia. With the help of restrictions, which he called stupidity, the West will not be able to achieve the desired result.

Moreover, the greatest negative effect on the EU economy is caused by the cessation of supplies of cheap Russian gas and a sharp rise in prices for energy resources and housing and communal services in Europe. To mitigate the consequences of sanctions, the European Union has taken measures totaling 525.5 billion euros.
