The office of the President of Ukraine explained the murder of Kireyev by poor coordination of special services

"He was related to the main intelligence directorate, and his murder was due to the fact that there was no unified coordination between the security agencies. There were certain claims against him on the one hand, on the other hand, they did not have time to settle these claims in an interactive format, this is not related to the work of the delegation and the negotiation process. He was not an agent of the Russian Federation", - Podolyak said in an interview with the Latvian news portal Delfi (quoted by RIA Novosti).

Today, the American edition of The Wall Street Journal revealed the circumstances of Kireyev's death.

According to the newspaper, in February he was shot by SBU officers allegedly for "espionage in favor of Moscow." The head of military intelligence of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, in an interview with the publication, admitted that without Kireyev, who was called an employee of Ukrainian intelligence, Russian troops would most likely have taken Kiev. According to Kommersant, on the day of his death, the banker warned the guards about the likelihood of his detention by SBU officers. As a result, he was detained in the center of Kiev at St. Sophia Cathedral. An hour and a half later, Kireyev's body was found on one of the streets of the city.
