Meta Platforms* announced the decision to unblock Trump's pages in social networks in an official statement on its website. It is expected that the unblocking of Trump's pages will happen within the next few days.
Trump's pages were blocked after his supporters, unhappy with Trump's loss in the presidential election, staged riots in the Capitol, trying to interfere with the work of Congress.
The company decided that people's behavior could have been provoked by Trump's publications on social networks, where he encouraged violence and riots. Trump had 34 million followers on Facebook.
Commenting on the decision to restore Trump's accounts, the company pointed out that "the public should be able to hear what politicians are saying in order to make an informed choice," Forbes notes.
According to experts, Trump and his social networks no longer pose the same social risk, so further blocking of the pages of the former US president was deemed inappropriate.
At the same time, after unblocking, Meta management will closely monitor the contents of Trump's social networks. And if he violates the community rules, his pages will be blocked again. The same punishment awaits other users who do not respect the norms of behavior in social networks.
Earlier it was reported that at the end of 2022, billionaire Elon Musk restored Trump's blocked Twitter account, where he had 87 million subscribers. Shortly before that, Trump announced that he wanted to compete for the presidency again. However, after unblocking, Trump has not yet published anything on his account. Instead, he created his own Truth Social network, where he now has almost 5 million subscribers.
