Dmitry Peskov: the issue of renaming Volgograd to Stalingrad is not discussed

The press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said that the proposal of the former Prime Minister of the country to rename Volgograd to Stalingrad is not on the agenda in the presidential administration.

"No, there are no discussions on this matter", - Dmitry Peskov commented. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Recall that on the eve of the former Prime Minister of the country Sergei Stepashin proposed to return Volgograd to its former name in honor of the Battle of Stalingrad. He noted that in the historical memory of the Russian people there is a concept of "hero city Stalingrad". Moreover, even today, most residents of this city call themselves "Stalingraders".

As reported by the news agency "Novostyvolgograd.Earlier, the organization "Officers of Russia" sent an appeal to the Deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and the governor of the region Andrey Bocharov with a request to rename Volgograd to Stalingrad.
