The number of prisoners has decreased by 32 thousand people since the beginning of 2022

A significant reduction in the number of prisoners in the prison was noted last fall. According to the Federal Penitentiary Service, by October 2022, the number of prisoners decreased to 453 thousand people, and by November 1 — to 439 thousand people. By autumn, the number of prisoners had decreased by 26.4 thousand people.

In the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, as well as in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, the FSIN organizes correctional colonies, medical correctional institutions and correctional centers. In total, 12 colonies and one medical correctional institution will be created in the DPR, seven colonies and one medical correctional institution in the LPR, three colonies and one medical correctional institution in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. Also, one correctional center will be created in the DPR, and two in the LPR.
