By the decision of the Pechora District Court of Kiev, ex-Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Vyacheslav Shapovalov was arrested for two months in the case of the purchase of uniforms for the Ukrainian army at inflated prices. Bail was set by the court in the amount of 400 million hryvnia - $ 10.8 million. Two more employees of the department responsible for procurement are involved in this case.
Investigators found out that Shapovalov bought bulletproof vests, helmets, and other things for the AFU at inflated prices, and as a result, the units of the Ukrainian army were not equipped with protective equipment worth more than 1 billion hryvnia ($ 27.27 million). In the case of corruption, the former head of public procurement of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Boris Khmelnitsky is also suspected, who, as the investigation found, purchased about three thousand bulletproof vests for the AFU for over 100 million hryvnias ($ 2.9 million). The uniforms, however, did not meet the requirements. According to Ukrainska Pravda, he purchased 5,700 low-quality bulletproof vests.
On the eve it became known that the head of the Customs Service Vyacheslav Demchenko and two of his deputies Alexander Shchutsky and Ruslan Cherkassky were dismissed. Before that, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced new dismissals: officials who do not meet the requirements of the state and society will lose their positions.
