In Turkey, the death toll as a result of the earthquake has increased to 1,014 people, according to the Turkish Department for the Prevention and Elimination of Consequences of Emergency Situations.

More than seven thousand people were injured, the Turkish Anadolu agency notes.

Earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the death of 912 people. He did not rule out that it is possible to increase the number of deaths as the rubble is dismantled. More than 2.8 thousand buildings collapsed in the country as a result of the earthquake. Turkish authorities have urged residents not to return to their homes for fear of repeated aftershocks.

In Syria, 403 people became victims of the earthquake. About 1.2 thousand more local residents were affected.

The earthquake occurred on the night of February 6. On Monday, seismic activity continued in these countries. Another earthquake was recorded around half of the second day local time in the central part of Turkey.
