The document was submitted to the lower house of Parliament last summer.

The State Duma Committee on State Construction and Legislation recommended the adoption of a draft law in the second reading, according to which criminal penalties should be imposed for up to ten years in prison for violence and threats from collectors against debtors.

The document, which was submitted to the State Duma back in June last year, states that the use of violence, threats, destruction or damage to property, dissemination of deliberately false information discrediting the honor of the debtor, is punishable by a fine of 300 thousand to 500 thousand rubles or in the amount of income for a period of up to three years. It is possible to assign forced labor or imprisonment for up to five years.

Ten years is supposed to be imposed if the crime was committed as part of an organized group.

The initiative of parliamentarians is connected with the fact that more and more Russians complain about the unacceptable behavior of collectors.

At the beginning of February this year, a group of senators and deputies from the Liberal Democratic Party submitted to the State Duma a bill banning collection activities in Russia. They pointed out that its adoption is necessary to protect the rights and legitimate interests of citizens who have overdue debts to credit institutions.
