From the end of February to November last year, Ukrainian libraries wrote off over 19 million books, including about 11 million of them in Russian.

This was announced by Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Deputy head of the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy Yevgenia Kravchuk.

She explained that it was a recommendation of the Ministry of Culture of the country. Books dealing with the elimination of Ukraine's independence, encroachments on human rights and freedoms, propaganda of violence and terror, incitement of interethnic, racial and religious hostility, as well as justification of a special operation were subject to write-off.

Some books in the Ukrainian language of the USSR period were also subject to write-off, she noted. The decommissioned books were sent to waste paper.

According to Evgenia Kravchuk, about 44% of books in Russian remain in Ukrainian libraries. The rest of the books are in Ukrainian, as well as in other European languages.

It's worth reminding that back in 2015, the Security Service of Ukraine banned the import of 38 books in Russian into the country, which deal with the propaganda of separatism.
