During 2022, 4306 people refused a Russian passport.

According to RBC, referring to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the indicator has become the highest since 2019. In 2020, there were 3877 refusals, in 2021 - 4055, and in 2019, Russian citizenship was refused more often — 4356 times. Within the country, only 40 people refused citizenship.

Last year, more than 691,000 people became citizens of Russia - this is also the minimum figure for a three-year period. A year earlier, the figure was equal to 735 thousand people.

The Interior Ministry clarified that over the year, 43% - 297 thousand people - accounted for Ukrainians who became Russians.

The head of the State Duma Committee on Control Oleg Morozov made a proposal to ban Russians who publicly condemn the Russian special operation in Ukraine from entering Russia. He thinks they need citizenship. Before that, the head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and state construction, Andrei Klishas, did not support the idea of Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev that in Russia "traitors" should be punished according to "wartime rules". Klishas considers it appropriate to deprive the mandate of parliamentarians who come up with initiatives that contradict the foundations of the Constitutional system, including the idea of deprivation of citizenship.
