The investigator believes that the explosions of three strands of the gas pipeline were carried out using C-4 explosives, which were laid by divers of the US Ministry of Internal Affairs in June 2022. The investigation says that the underwater bombs were activated three months later with the help of a sonar buoy dropped from an airplane into the area where the bombs were placed. Hersh writes that the Norwegian authorities assisted the Americans in covering up the operation, which had a double interest in this matter: they are US partners in NATO and economically benefit enormously from eliminating Russian competitors in order to increase their own gas supplies to the EU.
