Rosstat announced a decrease in natural population loss in 2022 by 45%

According to Rosstat, this is 45.5% less than in 2021. The birth rate in the same year decreased by 6.9%, to 1,306,162 children. Mortality in 2022 decreased by 22.1%, to almost 2 million people.

Last December, 108,325 children were born in the country, 164,540 people died. The death rate in December 2022 decreased by 23.7%, the birth rate — by 8.2%. The natural population decline in December decreased by 42.4% compared to the same period in 2021 and amounted to 56,215 people.

At the beginning of this year, the population in the country amounted to 146.425 million people.

By the end of 2021, the natural decline of the population amounted to 1.043 million people. In 2020, this indicator was at the level of 688.7 thousand people, in 2019 — 317.2 thousand people.
