The sky is emptying: the volume of traffic of Russian airlines is steadily decreasing

Almost all the leading Russian airlines carry fewer passengers and cargo every month

According to media reports, an unpleasant incident occurred with the Aeroflot Boeing-777 aircraft in India: when departing from New Delhi airport to Moscow, its landing gear tires burst. It was not possible to eliminate the malfunction promptly, and therefore, only with a 12-hour delay, the passengers were sent to Moscow by the arriving reserve board.

As you know, back in the spring of last year, Boeing stopped servicing aircraft of Russian airlines and supplying spare parts to Russia. This has the saddest effect on the work of domestic air transportation. So last month, according to operational data, 7.23 million people were transported — this is almost 11% less than January 2022.

According to the channel "Aviatorschina", the passenger traffic of the five largest airlines in Russia in January 2023 was as follows:

  1. Aeroflot — 1,540 thousand (-6.8% by January 2022);
  2. S7 Airlines — 1,251 thousand (-8.8%);
  3. Pobeda — 983,000 (-17.3%);
  4. "Russia" — 664 thousand (-0.5%);
  5. Ural Airlines — 586 thousand (+1.1%);

Passenger traffic of the Aeroflot Group in January decreased by 9.2% year-on-year, to 3,186 thousand people.

Last month, only eight of the 20 largest airlines in Russia increased passenger transportation: Red Wings (+55.1%), Izhavia (+32.2%), Yamal (+26%), Severstal (+14.4%), Aurora (+10.4%), NordStar (+10.1%), IrAero (+7.9%) and Ural Airlines (+1.1%).

The strongest drop in passenger traffic in January was shown by AzurAir (-38.2%), Nordwind (-33.8%), Utair (-25.6%), Icarus (-25.3%), Pobeda (-17.3%), Smartavia (-12.5%).

Air cargo and mail transportation by Russian airlines in January fell by 72.5% (to 31.7 thousand tons), and cargo turnover — by 84.5%.
