The United States diplomatic Mission in Moscow has warned its citizens that Russia may refuse to recognize U.S. citizenship to persons with dual citizenship, deny them access to consular assistance, subject them to mobilization and conscription, or prevent them from leaving. In this regard, Americans are advised not to go to Russia, and those who are already in the country should leave it as soon as possible.
US citizens were urged to exercise increased caution "due to the risk of unlawful detentions", "avoid any political or social protests," and not to photograph intelligence officers at these actions. The report says that the Russian authorities have arrested US citizens who participated in the demonstrations.
Moreover, the embassy does not give information that it will help Americans to leave Russia. Diplomats talk about the need to "take independent measures":
"The U.S. Embassy has serious limitations in its ability to help U.S. citizens leave the country, and transportation options may suddenly become even more limited".
It's worth reminding that at the end of January this year, the new American ambassador Lynn Tracy arrived in Moscow. It was assumed that she would start working on the possibility of issuing visas to Russian citizens. Documents have not been issued to Russians since 2021.
