As RIA Novosti reported the day before, referring to the director's son-in-law Kirill Vytoptov, Abdrashitov died as a result of cancer:
"It's true, yes, he died. Oncological disease... It all happened in the evening".
Vadim Abdrashitov was born on January 19, 1945 in Kharkov, in 1970 he entered the VGIK Faculty of Directing. He was invited to work at Mosfilm after filming as a coursework in the film "Stop Potapov!"
At Mosfilm, Abdrashitov met screenwriter and director Alexander Mindadze, with whom they subsequently shot 11 films.
The director is known to the audience mainly from the films "Servant", "Stop the Train", "A Play for a Passenger", "Dancer's Time" (Chulpan Khamatova made her debut in the film). Abdrashitov received the title of People's Artist in 1992.
