Iran agrees to introduce a visa-free regime with Russia if the Russian Federation declares a mutual desire to lift restrictions.

This was stated by the Iranian Ambassador to Kazem Jalali of Russia.

"If Russia, too, like us, would declare that there is such a readiness, we can announce a visa—free regime in a short time", - the RBC ambassador quotes.

The diplomat stressed that the differences in the position of the Russian Federation and Iran's relations with Donbass will not interfere with the mutual cooperation of the two countries in the formation of a visa-free space.

"From the point of view of the Islamic Republic of Iran, I, as a representative of Iran, can say that there is such a full readiness on our part", - Jalali said.

Earlier it was planned that the visa-free regime for participants of group tours with the number of travelers from five to 50 people from the Russian Federation to Iran will start operating on January 1, 2023. It was expected that those who would go to Iran for no more than 15 days, a visa will not be needed. However, on January 12, tour operators announced that a visa-free regime for group trips has not yet been introduced.

Today from In addition to the CIS countries, Russia can travel to Serbia, Montenegro, Israel, South Korea, Morocco, Namibia and a number of other countries without visas. At the same time, the conditions for obtaining Schengen and American visas for Russian citizens have become significantly more complicated over the past year.
